Welcome to St Francis Catholic Primary School Library

Opening Hours

We are open for issuing and returning books every school day from

8.30 – 9.00 am

and from

1.00 – 1.45 pm.

Seniors are encouraged to issue and return books during these times.

Borrowing Books

Children in the Junior School Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 5 can borrow 1 book for 1 week. They are not permitted to take these books home so they remain in their classrooms during the borrowing period.

Children in the Senior School Rooms 4, 6 – 9 can borrow 2 books per week. At the start of each school year, parents of these students can choose whether they give permission for their children to bring home their library books. The students and the parents sign a contract talking responsibility.

Library Lunchtimes

The library is open every lunch-time between 1.00 pm and 1.45 pm for children to enjoy. They can come in during that time to issue or return books, to read or be read to, to draw and make things, to colour in, to play with puzzles and board games and to view videos when showing. The library will be closed during wet lunchtimes as children are in their classrooms. There is always a teacher and 3 Junior Librarians on duty during lunch opening times.

Library Times

Every class in our school has a fixed 1 hour library time each week. Juniors can have their books returned, renewed, reserved and issued during this time.

Class library days are timetabled on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday

Overdue Books

We do not charge overdue fees.

Children are expected to have their book(s) in their class library box the morning of their library day.

After a week if a book has not been returned an overdue slip will be sent home to parents to inform them about it. In the event of a lost or damaged book parents are required to reimburse the school for its replacement.

Junior Librarian

At the end of each school year students in Years 4 / 5 can apply for the position of JUNIOR LIBRARIAN for the following year.  We have a team of 15 students who do a morning and lunchtime duty each week and as the year goes on they are given increased responsibility and leadership in the library. They strive to achieve 3 awards based on knowledge gained and applied and activities implemented.
